Tick Control in MA Does Not End with Summer
Posted by Mosquito SquadDecember 20, 2023
September is now on the horizon, and that means fall isn’t too far away. After the long wait for summer, the prospect of fall and winter might seem like a daunting thought, but don’t worry too much. Despite August coming to an end, warm weather isn’t going anywhere just yet. Yes, the “official” summer months may be in their final moments, but warm weather is known to make lots of appearances through September and October. Such weather patterns might seem like a relief, yet there is a downside to this climate.
Tick control will remain important through the fall
Unfortunately, ticks are going to remain in our region for a while longer, threatening both our happiness and our health. There are numerous downsides of having ticks around, one of them being their sheer population numbers. Due to our favorable climate, ticks can be found in abundance throughout Massachusetts. From our backyards to our local parks, ticks are almost assuredly nearby. What makes this fact more disturbing, however, is the prevalence of disease among local tick populations. Despite their tiny, unassuming appearance, ticks are highly dangerous and can transmit serious diseases to us that can seriously harm our health. Lyme disease, for example, makes the news all the time in the Northeast due to the large population of humans it infects every year. Indeed, roughly 300,000 to 400,000 people are infected with Lyme disease every year in the United States, making it the most common vector-borne disease in the country. And that’s not all, ticks are incredibly hardy insects capable of overwintering and living for a couple of years. Ticks can operate in cold conditions and will remain active until temperatures approach 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Defending against these creatures is simple with professional help, though.
