Furthermore, it’s worth noting, different mosquito species have different types of saliva. So, if you lived in an area that had one type of common mosquito, then move to a new location with a different mosquito species, you may end up with skeeter syndrome as a result of your immune system not being “familiar” with that type of saliva. It’s unknown why certain people will, seemingly overnight, develop these strong reactions to mosquito bites.

So, How do You Treat Skeeter Syndrome?

In most instances, treating skeeter syndrome are rather simple. The use and/or combination of warm compresses, along with topical creams or antihistamine tablets is very common in helping the swelling and discomfort to subside. However, if you or anyone in your family suffers from severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock from mosquito bites, be proactive, carry an EpiPen with you, and have your family members carry them, as well.

Adding on to being proactive, with regard to skeeter syndrome, start at home! Make sure you don’t have standing water in your yard and don’t forget to even check your gutters.
