Florida Prepares To Fight Zika

May 11, 2016

USA Today posted this video which really emphasizes how the U.S. fight against Zika depends on local effort. Some communities invest millions of dollars fighting Zika. For others, it’s a second thought.

The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District is fighting it with a tiny fish called Gambusia, or “Mosquitofish.” The Gambusia (which there are over 40 species of) eat the larvae of the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito which is the most responsible for spreading Zika. This freshwater fish is native to the Eastern and Southern USA. One Gambusia Fish can consume more than 10 square feet of mosquito larvae! In the Florida Keys and other mosquito control districts the fish are distributed for free to residents.

You can also do your part to help eliminate mosquitoes and the fight against the spread of Zika by following these simple steps.  These steps will help to stop the spread of the type of mosquito before it can colonize our great state.

Mosquito Squad can also help to protect your family. Be sure to call our office at 262-784-9480 and set up your protective barrier treatment and eliminate 85-95% of the mosquitoes (and ticks!) in your yard.
