1,400 Confirmed Cases of Lyme in Minnesota in 2017

One thousand and four-hundred confirmed cases of Lyme. Scary enough and confirmed means that there were more cases that we didn’t know about. According to the Minnesota Department of Health there were another 910 probable cases, which means that a doctor diagnosed it as Lyme based on lab evidence but it didn’t meet the clinical evidence requirements of the CDC. The department of health also reported the rise in Lyme over the years. Between the years of 2000 and 2008, the median number of cases was 913. Between 2009 and 2017 that median number rose to 1,203.
Lyme Foundation
Channel 4 Minnesota also reported the 1,400 cases of Lyme last year while speaking with Lisa and Pete Najarian, founders of the Twin Cities Lyme Foundation. Lisa suffered from Lyme for 16 years before she was properly diagnosed. They spoke of the difficulties in diagnosis since no two people with Lyme suffer in quite the same way.
Symptoms of Lyme can look like some many different things including arthritis, fibromyalgia, neurological disorders, ALS Parkinson’s disease, just to name a few. The Najarians hope to help people get diagnosed properly and find the right treatment through their foundation. Sixteen years is too long.
Protect Yourself From Lyme by Eliminating the Source
Thirty-percent of the cases of Lyme last year manifested into other struggles that could last for an extended period or even permanently, such as Bell’s palsy and arthritis. That’s not even mentioning the abundance of Chronic Lyme patients. “Living with Lyme” is a catchphrase that none of us want to have to use.
Lisa and Pete Najarian have taken on a great cause for us here in the Twin Cities. However, Mosquito Squad of the Twin Cities wants to eliminate your need for their help.
