Time to Thank Your Dad for All He Does
Father’s Day is just around the corner. Instead of buying the typical store-bought gifts such as a tie, cologne, etc. consider some unique gift ideas and activities to do with our dad to celebrate his special day.
Living in the Sunshine State and the Greater Tampa Bay area offers beautiful year-round weather, parks and beaches and plenty of opportunities to enjoy time with your dad. This Father’s Day consider some of the following gifts / activities that you can enjoy with your dad and make some memories.
Go Fishing
Tampa Bay is the largest open-water estuary in Florida and is home to many species that offer excellent recreational fishing opportunities.
Pack a picnic lunch, cold beverages, some chairs and a sandwich and take dad fishing to catch some of the most sought-after fish in our waters such as; Tarpon, Redfish, Snook, Seatrout, Sheepshead, Flounder, Grouper, Snapper, Cobia, Mackerel to name a few.
You can fish in your backyard if you live on the water, go to one of our famous local fishing piers, hop on a charter, rent a kayak or do some surf fishing off our miles of coastline.
Once you catch the “keeper”, bring it home to cook/grill and create a “feast” you can enjoy with your dad and family while eating outdoors.
Build a “Man Cave”
Help dad build the perfect man cave that serves as his sanctuary and holds his treasures and prized possessions which may include cars, bars, tv’s, entertainment centers, games (pool tables, pinball, arcade games, darts – to name a few). Work together, or surprise him with the perfect layout and design, down to the smallest detail.
Mosquito Repelling Flowers, Herbs & Plants
Get out the gardening tools and help dad to plant some mosquito repelling flowers, herbs and plants. There are several varieties of flowers, herbs and plants that can assist in repelling mosquitoes. They can be planted in outdoor gardens, landscaping beds or in decorative planters that can be placed in areas that are ‘entry points'.
A few of the more ‘common’ ones try include; Catnip, Lemongrass, Marigolds, Mint, Lavender, Rosemary, Basil and Thyme.
Not only will you enhance the appeal of your landscaping, you will be spending quality time with your dad and your mom, siblings and furry friends will be happy too as your efforts will assist in repelling mosquitoes and other biting insects.
Backyard Fun & Games
Check out the internet to get supplies and design and build your own Cornhole platform with dad. It is relatively easy and you and your dad will spend quality time building your personalized game that you, your dad and family can enjoy for years to come.
Some helpful considerations from the American Cornhole Association to keep in mind indicates that platforms be a 48" x 24" rectangle made from 1/2-inch plywood. The front of the platform should stand 2-1/2 to 4 inches tall and the back of the platform sit 12 inches off the ground. Regulation corn bags need to be 6-inches square, made from duck canvas and be filled with two cups of corn feed. If you don’t feel up to the challenge to make your own bags, purchase a set of eight online with his favorite sports team, car, etc.
