Mosquito bites are not just annoying, but some people are allergic to the mosquito’s saliva when they bite and suffer from “Skeeter Syndrome”- Yes there is such a thing.
For those that suffer from “Skeeter Syndrome,” if bitten, they may experience extreme swelling, itching, blistering, infection, fever and in certain cases anaphylactic shock. Even worse, the affected limb may double in size, eyes may swell shut and the area can feel hot and hard to the touch.
“Skeeter Syndrome” can affect anyone. However, toddlers, young children, and senior adults are more prone to suffer from this type of allergic reaction. Even if someone never had “Skeeter “Syndrome” before, it can occur at any time. The symptoms can develop within a matter of hours or they can surface even 48 hours after the bite.
If you find that mosquito bites are consistently causing a severe reaction, it may be worth scheduling an appointment with a board-certified allergist to officially determine if you have a mosquito allergy.
