Serving the Area for 10 Years: Mosquito Squad of Southeastern Massachusetts Honored as Franchisee of the Year
Posted by Mosquito SquadDecember 20, 2023
It all started with an excellent customer experience and a desire to provide that experience to others. Now we have celebrated ten full years of serving southeastern Massachusetts with the very best mosquito & tick control services. While mosquito reduction is what our clients want, we know they also need customer service that is above and beyond.
When it comes to trusting your property to a service provider, knowing you are working with a business that truly cares and is responsive to needs, requests, and concerns is paramount. We take it a step further with constant communication. Our clients receive email, text, and/or phone call reminders the day before service and when the technician is on the way. Our office is staffed with a dedicated team of specialists ready to answer any urgent or curious questions when you call.
How it Started
In 2012, we launched our first season from Arthur and Gail’s garage. We had one truck. Arthur treated every property himself with one employee helping him.
How it is Going
Substantial growth has seen us move multiple times to commercial spaces we keep outgrowing! Our fleet has grown to 16 service trucks, and the team is 30 technicians strong plus a full office of sales & customer service agents.
Accolades
Recognized as 2020 Franchisee of the Year by the Mosquito Squad corporate team. This award goes to one location each year out of the over 200 worldwide, locally-owned Mosquito Squad locations.

Southeastern Massachusetts Mosquito Control Over the Years
Looking back over the last ten years, we have to confess that some unexpected events have impacted our business and everyone we serve.
In 2015-2016, there was an almost worldwide Zika virus scare. The virus came to light as a danger due to an outbreak in Brazil being linked to microcephaly in infants. The outbreak in Brazil spread as mosquitoes passed the disease to people, and people passed it back to mosquitoes causing a chain reaction. While the scare was relatively short-lived and only had a minor impact in the region, it raised new awareness of mosquito-borne diseases.
In 2015, Health officials from Massachusetts declared Lyme Disease an epidemic in our state. With local news outlets reporting the details, tick control became even more top of mind with the near-constant threat of tick bites.
In 2019, the first of a two-year EEE outbreak hit Massachusetts. The outbreak was horrible in Bristol and Plymouth counties. Eastern Equine Encephalitis is rare in humans but is highly deadly, with 33% of human cases fatal. In 2019 there were 12 reported human cases in our state, resulting in 6 deaths, three of which were from our area—one person each from Fairhaven, Taunton, and Freetown.
In 2020, lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic began in March. Although we were able to remain open for business, there were many obstacles to overcome to continue to operate. The biggest was that the state licensing agency shut down and we were unable to license any technicians that year. We dedicated our unlicensed technicians to providing the natural treatment with great success using a newly formulated natural mosquito treatment option. The new formula was even better than our previous one, and our clients were able to enjoy lockdown outside minus the bites.
2021 was the year of the “great resignation” and it brought a new challenge - a surge of new business owners trying their hand in the mosquito control services space. Healthy competition is good for keeping us on our toes, innovating, and proving ourselves to our valued clients, which is a challenge we met head-on.
As we begin to emerge from the COVID pandemic haze, technician certification processes are back to normal. Our staff is eager and ready to serve you! Furthermore, our leadership team was awarded the 2020 Franchisee of the Year, largely due to the way we maintained exceptional client relationships throughout the challenges of COVID-19. While we gear up for the busiest months of the year, we continue to tighten up our processes so that our clients reap the benefits of our locally-owned family business as well as our national network of franchise counterparts.
