Chester & Delaware County, PA, Back to School Mosquito Control
Posted by Mosquito SquadAugust 24, 2017
The first day of school is right around the corner! Chester Upland school district and Delaware County schools are preparing to open their doors for the 2017/2018 school year and parents all over Chester & Delaware Counties are busy getting school supplies. While you are out gathering the basics; notebooks, pencils, attire or even uniforms, have you given much thought to what the kids will be doing when the dismissal bell rings each afternoon?
Depending on the age of your youngster, chances are, they will head to the backyard upon arriving home from school each day. After securing an afterschool snack and finishing their homework (umhum), elementary-school-aged kids will most likely be ready for backyard play to get rid of some of that energy from being in the classroom all day.
If your child is involved in Fall sports through his/her school or a local athletic program after school is the perfect time for practice. Though many teams schedule on site practice times for participants, most likely your child will want to practice at home in order to refine their skills and gain confidence come game time!
With all of this in mind, it is safe to assume that keeping your backyard free of dangerous mosquitoes and ticks is high on the priority list for parents. Many West Chester, Newtown Square and Mainline, PA, homeowners assume that once Labor Day has come and gone, there is no longer a need for mosquito and tick control services. However, in reality, nothing is farther from the truth. The autumn is a period when mosquitoes and ticks are both active and still in search of a host for a blood meal.
Ticks, in particular, are not just a summer season problem. While some types of ticks may slow down when it gets colder, others are just getting started. The Deer Tick, (aka Blacklegged tick), which is responsible for Lyme Disease and Powasson Virus, is one of the species that is very active throughout the fall.
The Keystone state leads the nation in Lyme Disease cases. In fact Pennsylvania had 7,351 confirmed cases of the disease in 2015 which accounted for nearly a quarter of all U.S. cases. You can read more about how PA is affected by Lyme Disease in our recent article Pennsylvania the “Bull’s Eye” for Lyme Disease? This data lays the foundation for residents to take their tick control VERY seriously.
The best way to keep your family protected from the discomfort of being bitten and reduce your risk of vector-borne illness is to avoid the bite by eliminating the source. Mosquito Squad of Chester & Delaware Counties offers a combination of techniques to get rid of mosquitoes and ticks in your yard and keep them from coming back.
