The most effective way of determining which pest you are experiencing is to learn more about them. Learning how fast a mosquito flies and multiplies can help you combat them from ruining your outdoor fun.

How Fast Do Mosquitoes Fly?

Although Mosquitoes seem impossible to swat before getting bit, they tend to be slow-flying insects. They fly at about 1.5 miles per hour. In comparison to bees and flies, they are more slow-moving. Most species can fly a distance of 1-3 miles. However, the Asian Tiger Mosquito, one of the most common mosquitoes in Virginia, has short flight ranges of about 300 feet. Generally, mosquitoes fly at heights less than 25 feet due to their weak flying abilities.

How Fast do Mosquitoes Multiply?

Female Mosquitoes can lay about 100 eggs at a time. The entire life cycle from egg to an adult takes approximately 8-10 days. Mosquitoes only need a small amount of water to begin laying eggs. After adult mosquitoes emerge, males will feed on nectar from flowers while female mosquitoes feed on humans or animals for reproduction.
