DIY Outdoor Decorating Ideas

DIY: Tire Planter (with drainage holes) by DIY Showoff

You will need:

• An old tire
• Valspar mist paint
• Potting soil
• Flowers
• Chain and an “S” hook
• Fabric weed barrier
• A few styrofoam packing peanuts
• Drill and sharp drill bit

1. First, throughly scrub the tire down with warm water and soap. 
2. After it’s dry, apply a couple coats of mist paint. Let dry.
3. Next, drill 6 holes into the bottom of the tire to allow drainage. You may experience a fair amount of resistance as well as a little bit of smoke.
4. Once the holes are in, line the bottom of the inside of the tire with the weed barrier and packing peanuts. 
5. Now, it’s time to hang the tire. Wrap the the chain around a sturdy tree branch and secure the ends inside the top of the tire with the “S” hook. 
6. Since the tire is in place, you can begin planting. Cover the packing peanuts and weed barrier with a good amount of soil. 
7. Plant and water. 
8. You’re done!

DIY: Mason Jar Luminaries by Keep Calm & Decorate

You will need:

• 3 Mason Jars (or as many as you’d like)
• 3 pack of mini American flags (can be purchased at your local Walmart or Target in the “Dollar Section”)
• Roll on double-sided tape
• Modge Podge
• Twine
• Super glue

1. Soak the mason jars in warm water and dish soap. The labels should peel off easily.
2. The American Flags might be a little curled from the package. To correct this, place a mason jar onto each one to flatten them out.
3. Once the flags are flat, remove the wooden sticks from the flags. Be careful not to rip them.
4. Next, apply the roll on double-sided tape to the back of the flag. Upon completion, line up the flag with the jar and stick on.
5. Spread a few coats of Modge Podge over the flags to help make them stick better and to ensure that they won’t be peeling off anytime soon.
6. After that, super glue some twine around the top of the jar to jazz it up a bit.
7. Finally, add tea lights.
8. You’re done!

DIY: Glass Marbles to Brighten Fence by Garden Drama

You will need:

• Drill and sharp drill bit
• Marbles

1. Gather your marbles together from around your home. If you don’t have any, buy new marbles. (Vintage marbles tend to vary in shape and size, so it may be a hassle finding a drill bit size that will work for all of them.)
2. Choose a sharp drill bit that it slightly smaller than the marbles. The goal is to have the marbles fit snugly into the holes so adhesive isn’t needed.
3. Practice drilling into a scrap piece of wood to find a drill bit size that is going to work for you. 
4. Once you have selected a size, you can go ahead and start drilling into the fence itself.
5. The marbles can be popped in as you go, or you can start putting them in after all the holes are drilled.
6. You’re done!
