Yankee Homecoming Parade and Newburyport Mosquito Control

Posted by Mosquito Squad

July 22, 2015

Since 1958, the Yankee Homecoming has been a highlight of summer here in Newburyport! This year marks the U.S. Coast Guard’s 225th year. For eight days, from July 26th – August 2nd, concerts, fireworks, and the parade honor our town and community history, past and present. We here at Mosquito Squad are thrilled to be joining in the celebrations this year as a proud part of our community! Look for our familiar green shirts and amazing, smiling team members as we join in all the many fun activities planned for the week, including the Yankee Homecoming Parade on Sunday, August 2 at high noon.

As we gear up for more and more of summer’s fun outdoor activities, the recent rains have brought a deluge in the mosquito population. As recently stated in the Boston Globe, due to the very real threat of West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in our area, taking precautions about mosquito safety is one of the best forms of preventative medicine available! We have 5 T’s: things to help you keep mosquitoes out:

  1. Tip: water from birdbaths, pots, kids toys
  2. Toss: old tires, debris, garbage
  3. Turn: boats, kayaks, kiddie pools
  4. Tilt: tilt and pull those tarps taut!
  5. Treat: with our effective, seasonal barrier treatment

According to the CDC, there are now 12 active cases of Chikungunya in Massachusetts currently, including one right here in Essex county. All of these cases are believed to have been contracted outside of the state, yet they still pose the risk of spreading the disease to local mosquitoes in our area. To protect our community, we recommend our seasonal barrier treatment to help combat the spread of mosquitoes in our area.

Have you ever wondered what’s all involved in a barrier treatment for Newburyport mosquito control? We’ve put together a fantastic video that sums up our service in less than two minutes! Mosquito Squad of the North Shore offers four effective treatment options:

  1. Traditional barrier treatment, which is water resistant and lasts up to three weeks
  2. Organic, naturalbarrier treatment, which is mint based and lasts for over 2 weeks
  3. Special event sprays for BBQs, weddings, receptions, birthdays, or any celebration
  4. Misting systems with remote control and wind sensors for unbeatable mosquito and tick protection

Come celebrate our community pride this coming week with us at the Yankee Homecoming Parade! We will be on hand to answer any questions about how to get the most out of your yard this summer without those pesky mosquitoes.
