Tick Control is Not Just for Lyme Disease Protection

If you think Lyme disease is the only tick-borne illness threat, think again. Hendersonville tick control is not just for protection against Lyme infection.
We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here in the Nashville and Hendersonville area, the potential for the spread of Heartland virus is a very serious threat.
The Heartland virus spreads to people from an infected tick. As of January 2021, more than 50 cases of Heartland virus disease have been reported in Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to Jonathan Larson, an extension entomologist at the University of Kentucky, “Heartland virus is one of the many diseases that could be vectored by ticks.” Larson continued, “It's a viral pathogen, which is different than we see with a lot of tick-borne illnesses, which are often bacteria.”
Hendersonville tick control is now ready to help remedy the problem by eliminating ticks and controlling their spread.
Humans can get the Heartland virus after being bitten by an infected tick. The Lone Star tick can transmit the virus, but it isn’t known if other tick species can transmit it, according to The Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Larson further warns, “If you are bitten by a Lone Star tick, there is a possibility that they could have the Heartland virus if they've picked it up from another host, and then they could vector it into you.”
Most people with Heartland virus report fever, fatigue, decreased appetite, headache, nausea, diarrhea and muscle pain, according to the CDC.
Dr. Ross Boyce, assistant professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told USA TODAY that certain groups, such as elderly, immunocompromised or young people, could be at higher risk for a severe, and even life-threatening, disease from tick-borne illnesses.
No matter how you look at it, the threat of Heartland virus is not to be taken lightly, by any segment of the population.
Protect your family with the most trusted Hendersonville tick control.
Mosquito Squad is well positioned to fight the good fight against tick-spread diseases.
Our professional and highly-trained tick control team here in Hendersonville combats these dreaded ticks two ways.
1. Our Traditional Mosquito Barrier Treatment effectively kills ticks on contact, at the source – their breeding grounds. We will also create a protective perimeter around your home. This perimeter is particularly successful with ticks, given they tend to live at the outer edges of lawns and fields.
2. Our Tick Tube Treatment is an excellent strategy for eliminating ticks. This comprehensive Hendersonville tick control component involves Mosquito Squad strategically placing biodegradable tick tubes around your property to lure mice. We fill each tick tube with insecticide-soaked cotton that the mice then collect and use for bedding. The reason we go after mice is simple: When ticks attach to mice, they will be taken to their nest and poisoned by the cotton.
