Natural Tick Repellent for Pets

If you prefer to use natural repellent for your family, you should definitely consider natural tick control products for your pets! Some of the commercial pet tick repellent products on the market do contain harmful chemicals, according to this list from the Natural Resources Defense Council. These chemicals aren’t just a risk to your pet’s health, but they can also be dangerous for you and your kids.

To keep your pets safe from toxic ingredients, here are a few natural options to check out.

Natural Tick Repellent for Pets

Baltic Amber Collars

Amber pet collars have been growing in popularity lately. The product is quite simple: it’s a collar made with pieces of amber (fossilized tree resin) that can be used for dogs or cats. They work in two ways, according to AmberTick:

1. Amber contains terpenes, which release an aroma when exposed to heat or rubbing. As a pet wears the collar, the stones rub and warm up, and the smell that is released repels ticks and fleas.

2. Amber also generates a static electrical charge when it is rubbed against an animal’s fur. Though the animal won’t feel the shock, a small pest like a tick or flea will – and they can’t tolerate it.

There are a few different brands of amber collars out there, including AmberTick, AmberStone Pets, and The Natural Amber.

Electromagnetic Products

There are also several different brands of tick repellent products that rely on electromagnetic fields to keep pests away. According to one brand, 0Bug!Zone, their product works by creating a “frequency barrier” designed to repel specific insects using different frequencies. These frequencies are encoded into a magnetic strip on the tag.

Other brands include Only Natural Pet, which is a tag treated with a powerful bio-energetic process and sealed in an electro-magnetic shielded envelope. The Pet Protector Disc is a similar product, made from steel alloys and charged with magnetic and scalar waves.

Essential Oils

Natural bug sprays made with essential oils can work for humans, so why not use them on pets? It’s really easy to make your own blend using a variety of oils.

This bug repellent recipe from Wellness Mama includes bug-repelling essential oils like citronella, clove, lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, cajeput, eucalyptus, cedar, catnip, lavender, and mint, as well as natural witch hazel. DIY Natural also uses an oil blend in their recipe for homemade repellent.

Others have had success just using a few drops of rose geranium oil on a pet’s skin.
