Alpha-gal Allergy: Why to Consider Fredericksburg Tick Control

In our day-to-day lives, we must handle everything from health issues to making a living, and we are typically ready for all the day’s eventualities. The unexpected is something we try to prepare as best we can for, and this is what people with allergies attempt to do every single day. Throughout our nation, allergies are incredibly prevalent. Roughly 50 million people suffer from some form of allergy in the United States, making up a significant proportion of the country’s population. Allergies can be triggered by all kinds of things, from peanut butter to the sun, and this is caused by the body reacting to a foreign substance. Of course, many allergies are caused by things that aren’t harmful, but our bodies misidentify certain components of the allergen as being dangerous. Also, some people can develop allergies over time.

This is distressing for anyone who discovers they’ve somehow become allergic to certain pollens, foods, or something else, there are usually ways to cope with them. Bizarrely, though, there is a new allergy on the rise that occurs suddenly and is the direct result of being bitten. That’s right, ticks are the culprit of Alpha-gal syndrome. This syndrome was only discovered in 2007, and the allergy has gained a lot of attention over the past months and years. Why? Because of what you become allergic to. Alpha-gal syndrome is caused by lone star ticks, whose saliva contains the sugar molecule commonly known as alpha-gal. When bitten, our bodies respond as they normally do to an intruder, and our immune system tries to learn from the invader. Alpha-gal is subsequently chosen as the marker of a tick invader, and our bodies will create an allergic response. Unfortunately, alpha-gal is a sugar commonly found in most red meats and other mammal-made products like milk, and those bitten by lone star ticks may discover that they are now allergic to meat. This is a disturbing allergy to have, so make sure you implement tick control this summer.
