During Spring, Summer, and Fall, many of our Weymouth, Canton and Hingham-area customers love to plan outdoor adventures beyond their protected backyards. Camping, picnics in the park, taking Fido to the local dog park, and trips to the South Shore rank high on the list of local favorites.
There’s no denying the appeal of getting back to nature and even overnight excursions in the —except when the mosquitoes invade your time outdoors. Whenever you choose to get outside and connect with nature, here are our tips on how to keep the mosquitoes away:
Make sure to stay tick-smart when venturing into wooded areas
Ticks are everywhere, especially during the summer. When enjoying activities like hiking, camping and indulging in your favorite swimming hole and the like, they are bound to grab on to clothes or whatever they can to get to their ultimate goal….you and your family. If you are going camping, or even if you have a larger property and/or trees in your yard, it’s a good idea to check yourself, family and pets for ticks when they come inside. Better yet, call Mosquito Squad of Boston Metro South and let us take care of the threat for you. Our treatments help reduce ticks on your property, along with mosquitoes.
Make sure to pack protection
Mosquito protection is extra important during summertime, especially at night. If you are going to be outdoors for any period of time, especially at sunset and after sundown. If you are going to be outside of your yard then make sure you take appropriate precautions to protect yourself and your family, whether camping, fishing or just hanging out, you don’t want an unnecessary illness or discomfort. If you are entertaining in your yard or on your property then contact us for treatment plans that will protect you through the summer and beyond!
Avoid mosquito and tick hot spots while outdoors
It is important to know and avoid areas that may be prone to mosquito and/or tick activity. It is also important to teach your children to avoid these areas when outdoors! Mosquito danger zones include any areas of standing or stagnant water. If you find that there is standing water in your yard, make certain to get rid of it. Additionally, you should avoid any tall grass and advise children not to climb or play in or in close proximity to shrubbery or along fencelines as these are places ticks like to hang out.
If you follow these cautionary tips, you can help reduce the itching and discomfort that you this summer. It’s already hot enough during the summer month without the aggravation of itchy bites and risk of becoming ill.
