Tips on Protecting Your Pool from Mosquitoes

February 3, 2022

Did you know that it takes only one week for a mosquito to become an adult? At Mosquito Squad, we know how much time and energy you invest into making your home—and your pool—a special place to relax and enjoy time with your family. But pools can quickly become a mosquito feeding and nesting ground within days of unattended maintenance. You’re in luck: we have joined forces with ASP-America’s Swimming Pool Co. to give you the enjoyment and cost-effective summer you have been longing for.

Let the festivities begin with these tips!

Automatic Misting System

Mosquito Squad provides continuous mosquito control through an automatic misting system. Our mosquito misting systems release a 30-second treatment that fortifies your yard’s protection 2-4 times each day. So, let us worry about the pests by maintaining and refilling the systems as needed. Constant misting assures the elimination of pesky mosquitoes and gives you a peace of mind and protection for your family.

Using a Pool Cover

It’s not only you that finds a pool enticing to take a swim. You’ve undoubtedly seen bugs and other creatures taking a dip as well. Pool covers are a great addition to prevent all unwanted guests from taking a dip without your permission. This temptation blocker causes mosquitoes to find another nesting ground to raise their children and complete their life cycle without your assistance.

Test Your Chlorine Level

Testing chlorine levels can sometimes be tedious and often times over looked while enjoying your pool. The pH levels within a pool should always be between 7.2 and 7.8 to assure that the water is uninhabitable for mosquitoes. You can make sure your water levels are correct with America’s Swimming Pool Co. maintaining all of your pool needs. ASP maintenance includes checking pool water chemistry, recording chemical readings, and adding chemicals as needed, to assure the best swimming environment for your family.

Get Rid of Standing Water

Puddles may be fun to splash in, but they’re also a very exciting environment for mosquitoes as well. Clogged gutters, still bird baths, and any other container that has the ability to hold water must be checked and emptied once a week. To prevent stagnant water in your pool, water filtration should run between 4 to 8 hours per day. Fun fact: mosquitoes cannot survive in moving water, which is why you will not find mosquitoes at the beach.

Use Yellow Light

Mosquitoes have a sensitivity to light that many individuals may not be aware of. We have been trained to associate the yellow traffic light with taking caution and slowing down. This light also is a great tool to use in your pools to slow mosquitoes down from creating a nesting place within your waters. Although this may not eliminate them altogether, it is a step in the right direction in creating a more enjoyable time outdoors.
