After working for a major corporation for 12 years, in December 2012 I found myself
restructured out of a job. As I began the process of looking for work for the first time in
over a decade, it occurred to me that business ownership might be a good fit. My
corporate experience covered a range of roles, from sales to customer service,
marketing and training. What might it be like to build a small business using all of
these skills? I started investigating small business ownership in general and franchise
ownership in particular, getting more enthusiastic all the time. When I heard about
Mosquito Squad of Austin, I knew this was the right choice for me!
I moved to Pflugerville in 2007, and I loved my house, but I couldn’t use the backyard at all. Even a few minutes outside and the mosquitoes would be all around me, even when standing next to a smoky grill. When I heard about Mosquito Squad, not only was I interested in starting a franchise in Central Texas, but I couldn’t wait to get the service for my own yard! I was my own first customer, and we have been treating ever since. For the first time, I could use my yard! What a treat it has been. One spring I forgot to put my house on the schedule and right away my husband wanted to know what was going on, thinking maybe we had changed something about the service. I laughed and said that I just forgot to put us on the schedule. He said with urgency, “Would you please get the Squad out? This is awful!” Now I can’t imagine spending a summer without mosquito control in our yard, and it’s great to know we are helping so many other families enjoy their yards.
